Building a Team – Surround Yourself with Good People
If you’re building a team, you’ve probably read “Good to Great” by Jim Collins. His advice about getting the right people on the bus and getting them in the right seats is priceless. In the real world, we sometimes don’t have the luxury of building teams from the ground up and often need to work with the people we have. How do you build a team when the people you have might not be the ideal? Here are a few tips for getting closer to the team you want:
Make 2017 Your Best Year Yet
It’s a known fact that hundreds of New Year resolutions sprout up come January 1, but after a few months the majority fall to the wayside. Don’t let this repetitive ‘tradition’ happen to you – it’s time to make 2017 your best year yet. To truly achieve impactful results in any facet of your life pertaining to your business, I believe that you must make changes for yourself, first. What will you do to make this year your best year yet, not just professionally, but personally?
Grit & Grace
A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to hear Beth Moore speak. It was a great weekend with five girlfriends from different social groups with whom I am connected. I have known three of them for almost 20 years. We have seen a lot of growth and change in our families, marriages and in ourselves as women. We have laughed and cried for joys and losses. Last weekend we had a great time connecting as women. Our group ranged in age from 25 to 51 and we all connected to Beth Moore’s message of “Grace and Grit”.
Write Tomorrow’s Success Into Being Today!
Once a Creative Writing Teacher asked my classmates and I to bring a self-addressed envelope to class. We all wondered why, but we did as she had requested. As it turns out her lesson goal that day was to have all of us write a letter to ourselves – about ourselves. Prior to beginning the writing process, she explained the following:
$12,358 Tax Bill Turns Into $579 Refund
Several years ago, we got a call from one of our clients at tax time who was not at all happy with their tax bill.Instead of a small refund, as anticipated, they were looking at a $12,358 tax bill. Earlier in the year, following our recommendation, they had sold a mutual fund. We told them there wouldn’t be much of a tax bill from the sale, but now it looked like the mutual fund sale was the culprit triggering that $12,358 tax bill. Ouch!

Whether your morning starts early or late, how you begin your day has a huge impact on your level of success. Most of the leaders I work with are self-aware and have some version of a morning routine to get them properly set up for the day. Others struggle with family commitments, issues with organization or time or the simple desire to sleep. If you’re one of those, here are a few simple ways you can harness the power of the morning for life in just one month:
Interview Someone You Love
A friend sent me a birthday card recently telling me to rethink 50 as 10-10-10-10-10. It got me thinking that a lot has changed over the past decade. Ten years doesn’t sound like a long time, but there are so many changes and events that happen; there have been births, weddings, break ups, great fear and deaths that have affected my family.
New Tax Surprises For This Year
We recently received an email from someone who was concerned about new tax surprises and how they would be affected. Now a days not only do we have to question the accuracy of what we come across on social media and emails, we even have to be careful about what we see and hear in main stream media.
The email that was forwarded to us turned out to be…
Romance Kindlers For Couples
February marks a romantic opportunity for men to make a statement to that special person in their lives. For me, February is the month that I proposed to my wife (Kathy). Kathy and I were not able to spend our first Valentine’s Day together as Kathy was away at a conference in Vancouver, Canada. We lived in a small northern community at the time so had planned to have me join Kathy in Vancouver once her conference was over. I flew in late Valentine’s evening to spend…
