Your Best Lent, Ever!

Lent is a time of preparation.  It begins on Ash Wednesday when we are reminded that we started as dust and to dust we shall return.  It is the time when the Christian Church recalls the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert, his Passion and death – and ultimately his Resurrection on Easter Sunday!   It is the reason and the culmination of our Faith – and our hope for the future. As a time of preparation and self-sacrifice, Lent is often associated with fasting and giving things up that we enjoy.  In particular, if we give up things like sweets and alcohol – that are not particularly good for us – it can be a time of cleansing … body and spirit – so that’s good.

A Christmas Thought…

As we move into the Christmas season I am often reminded of an awesome story that I heard years ago, which has been a constant reminder to me over the years as to what the original spirit of Christmas was based.  The story goes something like this… One Easter Sunday morning, a pastor came to the Church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage, and set it by the pulpit. Several eyebrows were raised and, as if in response, the pastor began to speak.

Faith It Until You Make it!

Over the course of my short time here on this beautiful planet I have learned that we human beings when it has to do with achieving goals, dreams, and aspirations are driven by two factors: 1) Our Faith or 2) Our Fears. I’ve also learned that faith is a verb; an action word. The definition of faith is to have complete trust and confidence in….  The bible defines faith as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see! There’s a famous saying, you may have used it before, I know I have, that states, “fake it, until you make it.” I see you nodding your head.

A New Start, Every Month

This is the time of year where many of my friends are contemplating the trajectory of their lives, reviewing what worked and what didn’t in the past year, making goals or resolutions for the future, and sharing ways to make those goals stick. I love introspection and personal growth, and while it’s not always easy to be honest with myself about what needs to change (understatement much?), it’s such satisfying work when done.
