A Christmas Thought…

A Christmas Thought…

As we move into the Christmas season I am often reminded of an awesome story that I heard years ago, which has been a constant reminder to me over the years as to what the original spirit of Christmas was based.  The story goes something like this… One Easter Sunday morning, a pastor came to the Church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage, and set it by the pulpit. Several eyebrows were raised and, as if in response, the pastor began to speak.

SHOUT Your Blues Away!

SHOUT Your Blues Away!

There’s nothing like the holidays to show us just how human we are. I, myself, just realized we are only a few weeks from that special morning of ritual, family, and lots of shiny objects under the tree! Now I gotta go get those shiny objects! I have to admit that this time does bring me both lots of joy and lots of stress, which can lead to bad moods. Now, I know I’m not alone in this, and the last thing any of us need (or our family and friends!) is a lack of joy.

Youthful Dishonesty: The Hidden Truth – 6 Things Every Parent Should Know

As he began putting the first bite of his McDonalds pancake in his mouth, I told my son, “It’s time you told me the truth.”  The fork slowly came out of his mouth as he looked at me with stunned surprise in silence.  “What are you talking about Dad?” Your mom and I know what you’re doing.  It’s time you told us the truth.”  From that point on my son lost his appetite as he was faced with the unpleasant task of telling us about behavior that he hoped would stay hidden.

Overcoming Depression

Overcoming Depression

Life can be harsh – sad and traumatic events have a negative effect on us as they disrupt our world.  It is hard to succeed (definition to follow), to become independent – to remain independent when older – and to find purpose and meaning that resonates with our intrinsic beliefs and values. Sometimes we do not measure up to other people’s expectations – and sometimes, not to our own.  We also need to accept the fact that we will not achieve everything that we want to – and we won’t feel our best every day.  Sometimes, we just need to understand that it is OK not to feel OK …

Your Better “December” Calendar

Your Better “December” Calendar

Being organized, motivated, and inspired are all important parts of achieving your best life. The easiest way we’ve found of staying on track is by keeping a monthly calendar where we can see our key events, track our goals, and even motivate ourselves with quotes and affirmations. For years, we’ve published a monthly calendar for our own team. Rather, than keep it to ourselves, we’ve decided to share it with all of you! Especially since we know how helpful this can be. 🙂

This Thanksgiving, Cook Up Some Questions!

This Thanksgiving, Cook Up Some Questions!

I just love Thanksgiving! I love cooking, I love spending time with my family, and yes, I even love football! But, as the quote above eludes to, do you sometimes think to yourself, “This just went by way too fast!” Or, “Am I really living in gratitude today and taking full advantage of this time with those I love?” Well, I do. In fact, I just don’t see my family members enough. Enough to understand how their lives are going. What they are joyful about. What they are grateful for.

Joan Rivers’ Retirement Mistake?

Joan Rivers’ Retirement Mistake?

I don’t think it was a big secret when Joan Rivers passed away that she was still working at the tender age of 81. And I’m pretty sure she didn’t need the money! So the question I have for you is…Do you think Joan Rivers was a failure for not enjoying retirement? I could be wrong but I don’t think so. To me, an incredible retirement means being able to do what you want, when you want, where you want.
