Day 5: These People Can Help You Achieve Your Dreams!
Alright, it’s hard to believe we are on Day 5 of this 5 Day Challenge! Let’s review what we’ve talked about so far.
Day 1: We talked about reclaiming our lives. We took back control of our brains. We re-established that your life is your life and that everything that happens in it is “your own damn fault!” This way of thinking liberates you fully and gives you the ultimate personal power to direct your own destiny good or bad.
Day 2: Remember, we put a lid on our punchbowls, and we refuse to let anyone pee in our minds. People are not allowed to fill our heads with the problems of the world anymore and drag us down.
Day 3: We talked about the greatest tip – that we all can become our most successful selves. No excuses. No matter where or how our lives started or what our journey has been to this point we have to power to change our journey – today. We are enlightened and we know we own our lives and we can choose to be super successful moving forward!
Day 4: We explored the power of pressure and stress and we redefined those words in our minds. We realized that we can achieve our best only when we embrace, and in some cases actually create, our own pressure and stress. Diamonds are formed under extreme pressure and we need to embrace the journey that leads us to all be diamonds.
All this leads us to Challenge Day 5. Challenge Day 5 is meant to remind us that we need to fortify ourselves to go ahead and be amazingly successful people! To do that we need to understand that transformation is not an EVENT. It doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a day-after-day, week-after-week, month-after-month, year-after-year effort. It’s a journey…a moment-by-moment epic and heroic journey.
The final aspect of this journey for us to embrace is the importance of the influences that go on this journey. The “WHO” we choose to join us on our journey. Who we choose to walk with us as we live our lives. These people will either speed us up or slow us down on our trek. They will help us find the best routes that will lead us to our best destinations faster or they will get us get lost. They will determine the joy, fun, laughter we enjoy along the way. They will determine the types of activities and the amount of drama we have to deal with in our lives. These people will be the greatest determinant of us arriving at our intended destination.
You may have heard the saying “you are the average of the top 5 people you spend your time with.” Jim Rohn who was one of America’s great entrepreneurs, author, and motivational speakers once said “you must constantly ask yourself:
1. Who am I around?
2. What are they doing to me?
a. What do they have me reading?
b. What do they have me saying?
c. What do they have me thinking?
3. And, what are they helping me become?
Then ask yourself “is who I am and where I am going what I want to be and where I want to go?” If not, then it is up to us to move out the people who are slowing us down on our journey and replace them with people who are going to speed up our travels.
My hope is that we all see that we raise or lower our performance levels in relation to the expectation and the performance levels of our tribe (the core group of people we surround ourselves with). That’s why successful people seek out other people and organizations who are highly successful themselves. They know being surrounded by other successful people helps them raise the level of their own game.
If any of us want to take ourselves to the next level and remain high achievers, we need to access a high-performance reference group.
The other thing we need to do is get a picture of WHO we want to BE in three years’ time. To do that we need to consider our health, the quality of our family relationships, our business productivity, our financial situation, our marriages, our community and world impact and so on. We need to review our entire lives with open and honest eyes.
Once we’ve analyzed ourselves honestly, we need to look at our current associations and the key people in our lives. Are these associations and people helping us get where we want to be? Are they even heading in the right direction? If not, it’s going to be important for us to vote some of these people off our island and replace them with some higher achievers who can help us speed up our travels towards our goals.
Mark Twain said “keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that! But the really great make you feel that way to – they make you feel as though you can be great, too.”
Well my YBL friends, the 5 Day Challenge is wrapping up. My wish for all of us early in this new year is that we use the strategies found in this challenge. Ask yourself “what am I going to do with this information to move myself forward to achieve the awesomeness I am meant to achieve in my life?”
If you’ve got some thoughts or dreams about the 5 Day Challenge and where you want to be in three years, we’d love to hear from you – leave a message and inspire all of us with your goals.
All the very best,
