The Vibrant Self

As Spring arrives, we should strive to be as gloriously profound and outrageous as the new growth and bright flowers we see outside. With the coming of this season, it is so easy to be filled with a feeling of abundance.  This sensation compels us to offer ourselves to the world as the rest of nature does. We are born into nature and are a part of it.

Our earth home is abundant. It generously provides everything we need: air, water, sunlight and the soil from which our sustenance is formed. It is beautiful beyond anything imagined. Nature regenerates itself. The more we need, the more it provides. It expands in perfect balance and harmony.

In Springtime, miracles happen. After appearing to be dead for months, the biosphere explodes in new growth and vibrancy. This new beginning takes place in a 12 month cycle complete with death and rebirth.

“It’s spring fever,” writes Mark Twain. “That is what the name of it is.  And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!”

What is it that we want? How do we answer that question? My assessment is that the Self wants to express. It wants to show its colors. It wants to experience and fulfill its desires to love unconditionally.

Our small self, however, known as the ego, doesn’t want to let go for it prefers the comfort of the familiar. Soul wants to experience it all. That urgency, that constant and incessant longing Twain refers to as spring fever, is our soul urging us to let go to let our spirits soar. How can you not be excited by that possibility?

Get the most out of Spring. Have a chat with your ego, your small self. Explain that it’s part of your team – but not the leader – and thus, it must make decisions in tandem with your soul. Everything will be alright, even better for you, when you step out and take a chance. This is how we move into balance and harmony: by re-birthing ourselves, just like nature.

Think of it this way. We have a persona that we project to the world. It’s the side of our personality we want the world to see. Our ego (the small self) is in control of that projection, and it so often leaves soul out of the equation. We don’t consider its desires or accept its gifts because they are buried deep down in our essence.

We can’t become the best version of ourselves until we know what the higher self is, until we experience soul. We have to spend time digging to discover its treasures. Only then can we be as gloriously profound and outrageous as our true nature.
